Dear New Students,

Welcome to Catholic University! This is a very exciting time for you and your family. The next couple of months will go by very quickly and soon you will be taking your place as a student at Catholic University. Here at Catholic University you will develop yourself, shaping your intellect and learning to accept the challenges of a committed citizen who serves others. We hope that you will challenge yourself and lead others, taking responsibility for your Catholic University experience and making it everything you have dreamed. All of this starts with Orientation.

While we have years of experience preparing students through our new student orientation program, nobody has ever planned for an orientation quite like this year. Due to COVID-19 we are planning for orientation to look much different than ever before and we will continue to update you via email as changes are made. We also encourage your parents to interact with the University through the Family Nest so that they can keep up to date as well.

Orientation 2020 begins on Thursday, August 20th. We are still working with our partners in Housing Services and Residence Life to finalize the details of move in, which will likely occur sometime the week of August 16th, in assigned blocks, in order to provide appropriate space for students to move in.

While we typically include an in-person experience for parents and students for the first 2 days of our orientation program, this year we will only be in-person for our students. A more detailed schedule will be posted here later in the summer. All of the same content that we typically provide to parents will now be provided virtually through the Family Nest

The four day student Orientation program will have some in person sessions, as dictated by the stage DC is in at that time and some virtual components. We will provide students new and fun ways to connect with their peers, staff and faculty, learn the University and begin their academic journey.

Registration for Orientation opened on June 1, 2020. Please register by August 1. Detailed instructions for how to register through Cardinal Students can be found here.

Over the course of the summer you will receive information from Orientation and other University offices including information about our Summer Virtual program “Becoming A Cardinal”. We will be providing more information about this seven week virtual program by the end of June. The Catholic University of America is preparing for your arrival and we are ready to address your questions and assist with your transition.

Our staff is here to help you in your Catholic University experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance via phone at 202-319-5627 or via e-mail at

We look forward to meeting you in August!
